Advocacy in Action - Hashtag Perth Focus Groups

Published:

The purpose of the focus groups was to be an interactive workshop in which participants could discuss what needed to be done to strengthen Perth’s reputation and their role in doing so. Participants represented a variety of industry sectors, including urban design, development, media, academia, finance, local and state government.

Across the four sessions, significantly diverse viewpoints were shared, providing a wealth of perspectives ranging from creative ideas around Perth’s brand to individual experiences of being an advocate for the region.

Participants largely agreed that collaborative and strategic action needs to be taken to better leverage Perth’s strengths and promote the region as one that is sustainable, innovative and increasingly vibrant. While some weaknesses were acknowledged it is clear that Perth residents need to resist the urge to be self-deprecating and unintentionally talk the region down.

Moving forward, the Committee will synthesise the richness of the discussions to start to craft draft recommendations for the Hashtag Perth project. Participants will have the opportunity to provide further feedback during the socialisation process of the project early next year.
