Committee for Perth CEO to step down after 16 years of service

After 16 years serving as the CEO of renowned think tank, Committee for Perth, Marion Fulker AM has announced she is stepping down from her role in early 2023.

Mrs Fulker joined as inaugural CEO of the Committee for Perth six months after its inception and has since led it to become a recognised and respected membership‐based organisation focused on positively and proactively impacting Greater Perth’s future.

During her tenure Mrs Fulker has increased membership from four founding members to 119 representing 40 different sectors in the economy including global, national and local firms. More than 150 research reports into arts and culture; economic diversity; transport and congestion; gender equality; brand and reputation; the future of work and skills shortage have been released.

Mrs Fulker said while there would never be an easy time, now was the right moment to step down with a new strategic plan developed, a strong team embedded within the organisation, with high levels of involvement and support from the Committee’s members and the completion of the Committee’s latest research project, Race to the Top.

“Leading the Committee for Perth has been the most rewarding role in my career,” she said.

“It has been a great privilege to shape important conversations about Greater Perth’s future challenges and opportunities and bring to life the organisation’s vision for Greater Perth to be a globally renowned region to live, work, invest, study and visit.

“I am incredibly proud of the evidence‐based approach which the Committee is known for, providing independent research on the issues that are important to the region’s future. A personal highlight has been the fact we were one of the first 50 organisations in the country to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan and have been a sustained advocate for a nationally significant Aboriginal Cultural Centre to be established in Perth.

“Since 2007, I have had the best job in Western Australia but now is the right time for me to pursue new opportunities leveraging my expertise in cities and infrastructure along with governance and strategy.”

Committee for Perth Chair Tony Joyner thanked Mrs Fulker for her incredible contribution.

“Marion has done an extraordinary job. She can be proud of her visionary leadership and the Committee’s significant achievements. The Board and I thank her for all she has done, and wish her every success in her future endeavours. She will always be part of the Committee for Perth family”.

Mr Joyner said the Committee was well placed to continue to be a positive and influential voice for the region’s future. He said the role the Committee played in Perth and the State was critical, demonstrated by its long history of impressive research, and its strong and committed membership base.

A recruitment firm will be engaged to assist the Board in the appointment of a new CEO.
