Committee for Perth is thrilled to see Perth recognised as one of the best dozen cities in the world to live.
Perth has been named the 12th most liveable city in the world in the prestigious Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index 2023, released this morning.
Perth scored 95.9 in the ranking, which assesses the world’s cities across five key areas: stability, healthcare, education, culture and environment, and infrastructure.
What is even more exciting is that Perth has bounced back from a slump in its ranking last year, jumping from a ranking of 32 and score of 90 in 2022.
It had the fastest rise up the rankings after Wellington and Auckland.
Committee for Perth Chief Executive Officer Paula Rogers welcomed the international recognition of Perth.
“This is a moment where Perth needs to appreciate where it sits on the international stage and celebrate the lifestyle we have,” she said.
“Perth has the potential to be number one, with its incredible assets like a strong economy, affordable housing, rich Indigenous culture and being in the same time zone as about 60 per cent of the world’s population.”
“Committee for Perth is looking forward to collaborating with other stakeholders to build on the opportunity to build an even better Perth.”
Many Australian cities had lower rankings last year, where COVID restrictions and outbreaks affected their performance against criteria like healthcare, but have also bounced back.
“It’s wonderful to see four Australian cities in the top dozen,” Ms Rogers said.
“The new rankings place Melbourne at 3rd, Sydney at 4th, followed by Perth and Adelaide at equal 12th and Brisbane at 16th.
“Congratulations to Melbourne and Sydney for such a wonderful recovery from the pandemic.”
