September 2024 Update
CEO Update
What do you imagine Perth will be like in 2050?
Will we be travelling in driverless cars? Will we have
reached net zero? Where will you be in 2050?
The reason I’m asking is because work has started
on our Perth 2050 report, which we will launch later
this year. Renowned futurist Dr Ben Hamer is leading
our study, and we’re also partnering with Scitech.
As part of the research, we want to hear what you think Perth should be like in 2050. It is only 25 years away, and now is the time be seriously planning for our city’s future. I encourage you to contribute to this important conversation through the Perth 2050 survey – it only takes 10 minutes to complete – and PLEASE share it with your staff and management, your professional networks, even your family and friends. The more submissions we receive, the more accurate the picture will be of Perth’s vision for 2050. As someone passionate about Perth, this is your moment to make a difference and contribute to our future planning and preparation. Thank you.
Talking about Perth’s future, how exciting to see new plans to activate one of our most precious assets: the Swan River! Currently we have two ferry stops, but I was delighted to hear the Premier announce a further six future stops are being investigated, with another five on the stand-by list. Imagine future Perth with a fleet of ‘fast’ ferries providing services to commuters, visitors and students!
Winter can be such a tough time for many in the community. I recently took part in the 2024 Food Bank Meal Makers campaign where I came to realise hunger has no post code, with 42% of WA mortgage holders experiencing food insecurity. We also had students from All Saints’ College help raise funds for youth homeless services by taking part in the Anglicare WA School Sleep Out. I’ll share the link here again as you might want to donate too.
Looking to put some spring in your step this month? The Futuring Craft Conference, part of the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, is at Curtin University from 3-6 September. Featuring local, national and international artists, the Spirit of the Landscape exhibition is on at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre 7 September-6 October. Australia’s largest basketball festival HoopsFest heads to HBF Stadium 19-22 September. The Perth Royal Show is back on at the Claremont Showground 21-28 September – children under 15 are free.
Get your tickets now to hear Australian futurist Dr Keith Suter AM speak about the impacts of our changing world for the WA economy. The Business News event, presented by RAAFA, is on Wednesday 25 September, 2025 from 12.30pm. Committee for Perth members can access a 15% discount when ordering tickets with the code: CFP15
And please, have a think about how you would like to make a difference in planning for the best Perth for our future and stay tuned as we plan for Perth 2050.
Until next time,
Paula Rogers
