Championing a Plan for Perth

Be part of a growing movement to Champion for a Greater Perth today.
With our population set to exceed 3.5 million by 2050, the choices we make today will shape how liveable, affordable and sustainable the greater Perth region will be for future generations.

While there are plans that look at how we will manage land use and infrastructure as Perth grows, what is still missing is a big-picture, shared vision that puts people and community at the heart of how we want to live, work, connect and thrive in the future.

The 2050 Summit is your opportunity to change that.

This landmark, full-day forum hosted by Committee for Perth, will bring together leaders, government, students, creatives, entrepreneurs and community representatives to advocate for a Plan for Perth, for our region’s future. Grounded in the findings of the Perth 2050 Report, the Summit will explore the big questions: How do we grow well? What do we value? What kind of region do we want to hand over to our children and future generations?

This is more than a conversation. Be part of a growing movement to Champion for a Greater Perth today.

Why we are Championing a Plan for Perth

The journey towards a long-term plan for Perth started in 2012 when Committee for Perth first launched Towards a Brighter Future, a four-year research initiative that presented a compelling picture of the region’s population growth toward 3.5 million people. The report advocated for a shared vision and coordinated plan for Perth’s future.

At that time, we said Perth was at a crossroads. With a 38-year runway ahead, we called for decisive action to define and deliver a bright future for our growing city. As mentioned, plans exist that look at how we manage land use and infrastructure as Perth grows. However, it remains a technical response to population growth, not a human-centric vision for how we want to live, work, connect and thrive.

In 2024, the Perth 2050 Report was launched in partnership with Scitech. Based on futures thinking and extensive community input, the report revealed a stark insight: Only 22% of respondents believed Perth is prepared for 2050 and how will we adapt to a 50% increase in population without forward planning? As futurist and report author Dr Ben Hamer said, “This report serves as a starting point for the audacious decisions needed to ensure Perth’s prosperity in 25 years. The time is now.”

Around the world, cities like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, New York and Stockholm are guided by long-term plans aligned to their future ambitions. Perth deserves the same.

Committee for Perth continues to advocate for a visionary, people-powered plan for Perth, one that ensures our region remains liveable, inclusive and sustainable for generations to come.
