Perth, WA – Perth is at an inflection point. With the population set to reach 3.5 million by 2050 — a milestone first predicted in the Committee for Perth’s 2012 A Brighter Future report — the choices made today will define the Perth of tomorrow. Building on the landmark Perth 2050 Report launched in 2024 with Scitech, the 2050 Summit will bring those ideas to life — fostering collaboration and momentum for a long-term, people-centred vision.
Report author and futurist Dr Ben Hamer said: “Without taking decisive steps now, Perth risks missing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine itself and reimagine the way people live, work, invest, visit and play.”
Held on Wednesday 22 October 2025 at Crown Perth, the Summit will feature more than 30 leading voices from politics, business, science, health, culture and community — a diverse forum to challenge and reimagine the region’s future. With only 8,902 days to 2050, the time to act is now.
A DAY PACKED WITH INSPIRATION AND PASSION FOR PERTH
The Summit opens with reflections from Dr Richard Walley OAM, Cultural Advisor for Committee for Perth, connecting our future to our Aboriginal heritage, followed by Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, delivering a keynote on Perth’s path to a decarbonised future.
Ludo Campbell-Reid, Global Urban Design and City Strategy Expert, will draw on three decades of experience transforming cities from London to Auckland, Cape Town and Melbourne to show how design-led ambition can turn opportunity into reality:
“To truly unleash Perth, to make it even greater, we must embrace bold ambition, cut through bureaucracy and co-create a mission-driven roadmap that puts people at the epicentre — Perth stands on the cusp of a golden moment.”
Sessions will explore population growth, political dynamics and economic shifts before amplifying the voices of young leaders in Youth Voices – Vision for the Future, featuring changemakers such as Tremane Baxter-Edwards.
Technology will take centre stage with Juhi McClelland, Managing Partner at IBM APAC, stating:
“Technology is reshaping economies, industries and communities. Western Australia is uniquely positioned to harness AI and quantum technologies to drive sustainable growth and shape a future where innovation delivers for business, communities and the next generation.”
Her keynote leads into a session on the future of work and skills with WA Chief Scientist Professor Sharath Sriram and other senior leaders.
The afternoon will address Future Liveability — Ageing Strong and Living Well, featuring Dr Shirley Bowen, Director General of Health, alongside experts discussing health, housing and infrastructure.
The session Urban Futures – Perth’s Next Chapter, featuring leaders from Minderoo Foundation, Jacobs, AUDRC and Urbis, explores how planning, sustainability and design can unite in a cohesive vision for Perth and presenting ideas for our best future.
The Summit closes with a large-scale participatory workshop, turning ideas into action and shaping the framework for a long-term Plan for Perth.
Sold out, with more than450 people attending from over 100 organisations, the 2050 Summit represents the most diverse and future-focused conversation ever held about Perth’s future. It’s a rare opportunity for event attendees to champion a shared vision for our region, gain insights from leading experts, and contribute their voice.
Paula Rogers, CEO of the Committee for Perth, said:
“This is the most ambitious event the Committee has ever staged — a once-in-a-generation opportunity to explore the Perth we want to be in 25 years and beyond. I couldn’t be more excited to bring together such an extraordinary line-up of speakers, with a strong focus on Perth-powered talent. We know the answers — we are the Perth experts, and we love this place. Our goal is to make it the very best it can be for future generations, celebrating our Perth-ness along the way. The 2050 Summit will inform, educate and inspire — laying the foundations for the work that lies ahead across sectors and communities.”
This is Perth’s moment. Be part of it.
