Media Release: Committee for Perth welcomes new Chair

Committee for Perth’s outgoing Chair Tony Joyner today announced the appointment of Rob Cole as a Board member and new Chair of the organisation.

Tony, who has served as Chair since late 2021 and last year announced his intention to step aside, said Rob would bring to the role enormous experience and a deep understanding of Perth’s opportunities and challenges.

Rob is the current Chair of Perth Airport Pty Ltd and rejoins the Committee for Perth Board after a decade away from the organisation, having made a valuable contribution as a Board member between 2011 and 2015.

“Rob has extensive expertise in chairing public, private and government-owned corporations and representative bodies, across a range of different industries,” Tony said. “His insights and guidance will be vital as Committee for Perth plans for the future.

“Perth is at a key inflection point, and we are primed to seize the moment to position ourselves as one of the world’s most vibrant, green and connected cities, capable of dealing with the major population growth and socio-economic expansion that we know will occur over the next 25 years.”

Rob is currently a member of Curtin University’s Finance Subcommittee of Council. He has chaired several WA-based organisations including Iluka Resources Ltd, Perenti Ltd, Synergy, Southern Ports and Landgate. Executive leadership roles have included Managing Director of Beach Energy Ltd, Executive Director of Woodside Energy Ltd and Partner in Charge of King & Wood Mallesons in Perth.

“I am delighted to be re-joining an organisation that is making a significant difference to the way we think about ourselves as a growing and vibrant city, and how we position ourselves for a strong future,” Rob said.

Meanwhile, Committee for Perth Deputy Chair Paul Graham acknowledged the major contribution made by Tony Joyner over the past four years.

“Tony has been a wonderfully frank and fearless leader who has overseen the growth of Committee for Perth across all indicators, chaired an extraordinary Board and, most importantly, advocated for a future for Perth that is bold and ambitious,” Paul said.

“On behalf of the Board and team at Committee for Perth, I want to thank Tony for his incredible commitment. He leaves Committee for Perth in a strong position and as a highly successful independent and future-focused organisation ready to make a big difference to the place we are all so proud to call home.”

Tony said, “It has been a great joy to have worked with Marion, then Paula and now Tania, along with a first class Board, a wonderful team, and generous members and supporters, to try and make sure this beautiful city we live in, from Mandurah up to Yanchep and out though the hills, is the very best it can be.

That is the reason the Committee for Perth exists. I am very confident that Rob, Tania and the Board will take us to the next level.”

The Committee for Perth Board now comprises: Rob Cole, Chair Perth Airport (Chair); Paul Graham, CEO Perth Mint (Deputy Chair); Judith Barker, CEO Royal Flying Doctor Service (WA); Ian Booth, CEO Black Swan State Theatre Company; Dr Andrew Crane, Non-Executive Director RAC; Matt Judkins, Lead Partner Deloitte; Jody Nunn, CEO Reconciliation WA; Professor Clare Pollock, Vice-Chancellor ECU; and Muss Nagree, GM Climate Opportunities & Environment, Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers.
