Committee for Perth welcomes the establishment of the 2050 Commission

Committee for Perth Welcomes 2050 Commission

Committee for Perth welcomes the WA Government’s announcement of the 2050 Commission, a significant step toward long-term, integrated planning for the Perth region, and the state more broadly.

“If we don’t plan for the future now, we risk inheriting a future designed for someone else,” said renowned futurist Dr Ben Hamer, author of Committee for Perth’s Perth 2050 report. This principle has long guided Committee for Perth’s future-focused work and advocacy towards 2050, and beyond.

As an independent, evidence-based and apolitical organisation, Committee for Perth exists to champion greater alignment, integration and accountability across government and industry, on behalf of our members representing 43 different sectors in the greater Perth region.

Committee for Perth CEO Tania Hudson said, “The establishment of the 2050 Commission reflects a fast-growing consensus around the importance of long-term thinking, coordinated action and shared responsibility in shaping Perth’s economic and social future. This announcement represents a meaningful leap forward and strong alignment with the direction of Committee for Perth’s work, and we are looking forward to working with the 2050 Commission to realise our shared aspirations.”

2025 marked a milestone year for Committee for Perth that included the highly successful 2050 Summit: Championing a Plan for Perth, which brought together more than 450 leaders and changemakers to explore the future of our city. Three dedicated member Working Groups contributed to this ongoing dialogue, focusing on decarbonisation, densification and economic diversification.

The momentum is clear. There has never been a better time to harness the energy, enthusiasm and creativity of governments, business, communities and individuals to shape Perth’s next chapter.

Committee for Perth looks forward to continuing to work with the WA Government and Silver Member, Infrastructure WA, to help ensure Perth emerges as a global region of choice — a place people want to live, work, invest, study and visit.
