We are pleased to invite you to Committee for Perth’s Boardroom Briefing: Modern Slavery / Perth Reality Check with Dame Sara Thornton on Tuesday, 18 March 2025.
The scale of modern slavery is “hidden in plain sight and is deeply intertwined with life in every corner of the world”, says international human rights group Walk Free. Its Global Slavery Index estimates that 49.6 million people worldwide are living in slavery, and Australia is not immune, with 1.6 people per thousand affected.
Dame Sara Thornton, Professor of Modern Slavery Policy at the Rights Lab in the University of Nottingham, will lead a candid and meaningful roundtable discussion on this confronting and challenging issue. Dame Sara’s research focuses on prevention, business responses, supply chains and the role of the financial sector in tackling modern slavery. Drawing on her experiences as the UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Dame Sara will also share key insights, ideas and understanding on tackling modern slavery.
This exclusive breakfast briefing, hosted by Gold Member UWA, will explore Perth’s role in this global conversation and how we can drive change, both individually and as corporate leaders.
