Our speaker

Honourable Roger Cook MLA
The Honourable Roger Cook MLA is the Premier of Western Australia. He was born and raised in Perth as the youngest among his six siblings. From an early age, his parents instilled the values of passion, fairness, and being an engaged member of the community. Roger was elected as the member for Kwinana in 2008. Since the election of the Labor Government in 2017, Roger has been an integral member of the leadership team and Cabinet, serving in a number of key portfolios. He served as Deputy Premier for six years before becoming the 31st Premier following the retirement of the Honourable Mark McGowan MLA in June 2023. Roger is a strong advocate for health and fitness, having participated in regular triathlons and marathons. He’s also an avid supporter of the Western Force and Fremantle Dockers.
Our panellists

David Fyfe
David joined Synergy in 2020 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2022. David has more than 25 years’ experience across the energy and telecommunications industries. He has held executive roles in operations, commercial sales, asset management and business development.
David holds a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has held board positions in listed and not for profit organisations, including the Fiona Wood Foundation where he currently serves as Chair and Ability WA as a Non-Executive Director.

Dianne Bain
Di Bain is the Chair of Tourism Western Australia and a marketing and communications professional with more than two decades’ experience in the sector. Following on from her career with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Ms Bain founded media and marketing agency Bain Media, which focused on developing creative marketing campaigns and delivering strategic media advice to a range of businesses, from mining to tourism and cyber-security.
Ms Bain is also the Chair of Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and sits on the Philanthropy Advisory Board of the Black Swan State Theatre Company. In her spare time Ms Bain is a private pilot who enjoys flying helicopters and planes around Western Australia, discovering new and old stories.

Philip Spedding
Philip Spedding assumed the role of Defence Advocate in early 2023. He provides independent advice to the Western Australian Government and promotes the State’s Defence industry capability and capacity.
Philip served for 41 years in the Navy, spending more than a decade in the senior leadership group. His final roles were to lead reviews into a possible location for an east coast submarine base and the suitability of conventional and nuclear-powered submarines to meet Australia’s future defence needs.
Running his own consultancy business since 2019, Philip also sits on the management and advisory boards of several defence focused companies.
