Tucked away in a local suburb is Perth’s secret superpower, serving thousands of researchers around the globe and quietly underpinning some of the world’s most ambitious science, from right here in WA! At a time when AI acceleration intensifies, reshaping industries, economies and the future of work, Pawsey is placing Western Australia at the forefront of the computing power needed to unlock the world’s biggest challenges.
Join us for breakfast on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 for Committee for Perth’s Member Spotlight Experience: Perth’s Secret Superpower – Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre.
Come and see behind the scenes of the incredible research and computing capabilities right here in Perth that most people don’t even know about. See the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre’s flagship supercomputer – Setonix – Australia’s most powerful and energy-efficient supercomputer. Experience the visualisation lab hosting a stunning 5.5-metre Sony Crystal LED display wall with immersive 3D capability, VR technologies, and visualisation tools helping researchers transform complex data into discovery.
Named in honour of the father of Australian radio astronomy, Dr Joseph Pawsey, the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre currently serves more than 4,000 researchers across domains such as radio astronomy, energy and resources, engineering, bioinformatics, machine learning and health sciences.
The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre continues to demonstrate the value that its game-changing research is generating for Australia – creating insights that are more accurate, more timely, and opening opportunities to explore ideas and scientific questions that would otherwise remain out of reach. These signal even greater potential for current and future generations.
Hosted by Pawsey Supercomputing Centre’s CEO Mark Stickells AM, this event will be particularly valuable for members who want to hear about emerging infrastructure, research impact and the growing role of supercomputing and AI in driving innovation and scientific discovery across Western Australia.
