Josh Woodward
Josh has worked and studied at schools and universities all over the world, a journey that brought him to Perth and the University of Western Australia in 2019. His academic work culminated in a doctoral degree in modern Australian history from the Australian National University. His PhD, ‘A continent that Australians must be proud to advertise’: Nature, Tourism and the National Image, 1905-1988 examined the marketing and publicity organisations that promoted Australia to the world throughout the twentieth century. He has published widely on Australia’s tourism, migration, and economic history in leading domestic and international academic journals. This research highlighted how national publicity associations convened stakeholders in government and business around a shared vision of place – insights he now brings to the Committee for Perth’s own collaborative policy agenda. He is focused on underpinning Perth’s future ambition with evidence-based scholarship and cutting-edge research, and he believes that understanding the region’s past is key to navigating and shaping its future. Having lived and worked in cities all over the world, he is proud to call Perth home. In his downtime, you can find him enjoying the Perth sunshine and picturesque coastline with his family.
